It is also the time of the year that I offer all my friends on the Internet one of my short stories, preferably seasonal, instead of sending them a Christmas card.

I said that I was surprised because I’d always thought having a partner who shared your creative passion must be the start of a match made in heaven.

For example, I’ve often wondered if musicians make the best lovers for musicians. Most of my musician friends (unlike myself) are in a relationship with another musician … and they all seem pretty happy with compatible partners.

She explained that she’d hoped it would be great too but unfortunately she was a folk musician and he was into rhythm and blues.

They literally couldn’t play music together and because they didn’t, they eventually split up. So apparently it’s not just the bond of music, it’s a bond of the same kind of music that is essential.

So what do you people think? Have your best dates been with people who share an interest? If your husband, wife or significant other is creative, is it the best relationship ever? If you are single or in a relationship but still looking, are you hoping for a creative friend or a creative type date because a previous non-creative relationship lacked something special? What experiences have you had with dating musicians, artists or artistes?

I was browsing through the sort of questions that online dating agencies ask in their dating profiles and there was nothing about interests or anything search-able to identify other creative types. Given that most people are not artists, ploughing through thousands of profiles to find even one seemed a thankless task.

So where do creative types go to find creative types, if they want to?

Bearing in mind that the Dodo became extinct through lack of suitable partners, could artists suffer the same fate?
